Using Google+ Events to Promote Your Local Business

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Are you a local restaurant owner looking to advertise to new customers? Use Google+ Events to promote your next happy hour. Are you a local dance instructor trying to find new students? Use Google+ Events to help organize your next public concert. No matter what type of business you are in, Google+ Events can be an excellent marketing tool to help promote it. Targeted use of the Events invitation feature as an advertising resource can help you grow your business by connecting you with potential clients interested in your products or services.

Local Business Advertising via Events

Do you want to attract new customers with a small marketing budget? Engage your local prospects and give them something fun to do with targeted, local events. An event is a great way to bring on new business, create a regular customer base, and create valuable word-of-mouth publicity.

For example, if you are a salon owner in Phoenix you could introduce a new range of beauty products to your customers by creating an event, inviting select customers from your area to attend, and providing a free demonstration of your new products to the attendees. To help drive interest, include a contest with your invitation and give away a free haircut to the first 10 guests who RSVP. Engaging your local community and providing them value will help create positive buzz for your business.

Here are just a few event ideas to help connect your business to local, targeted customers:

  • Concerts
  • Conferences
  • Seminars
  • Product Demonstrations
  • Cooking Classes
  • Wine Tastings
  • Charity Fundraisers
  • Holiday Parties

After you have planned on the type of event you will host, consider using Google+ Events as part of your overall event promotion and organization strategy. In addition to Facebook, your website and newsletter, and press releases, Google+ can help you invite and draw attendees. During the promotional drive, whether offline or online, direct all attendees to the Google+ Events engine and manage them via an easy to use events management interface.

Once the event begins, use the Google+ “On Air” features to broadcast your event and reach a wider audience beyond those who could attend. For concerts and conferences, this feature will allow people to attend virtually from anywhere in the country.

Product awareness is crucial for the success of any local businesses, and Google+ Events is another useful tool to help increase awareness of your brand in the community. Although Google+ makes the process of event creation a snap, to realize the full potential of Google+ Events and event promotion it would be helpful for you to consult with a local online business optimization expert in your area. seenBEST can help you strategize your next event, build up the necessary tools to promote it, provide technical training to your staff, and even come out and help you record it and promote the video to the masses.

Using Google+ Events – Before, During, and After

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Google+ Events promises to change the way businesses manage events online. This article walks through usage scenarios for Google+ Events before, during, and after an event takes place.

Creating a Google+ Event (Before)

Creating a Google+ Event is easy for existing users. You will see the Events option in the left navigation of your Google+ home page. Click that, or visit www.google.com/+/learnmore/events/ to get more details.

To create a new event, advance through the form and provide the following details:

  • Name and a brief description of the event
  • Start Time (You can also mention end time if you have one)
  • Location Details (it will automatically link to Google Maps)
  • You can include some advanced fields too, like website URL, YouTube URL, and the Ticket seller URL (if participants need to purchase a ticket).
  • Transit and Parking Information
  • Invite people from your Google+ circles, people from your Gmail Contacts, or anyone else who simply has an email address.
  • You can also allow your guests to invite others to the event and permit them to add photos.

These are the basics required to great an Event using Google+, but to take it further you can use the built-in options to personalize your event and make it more interactive for participants. There are also ways to integrate your event with Google Calendar for sharing across the web.

Collaborating in Real-Time (During)

This is where Google+ Events outshines similar services. The Party Mode allows participants to take photos and videos at the event and then upload them to the events page itself. All participants have the ability to add content in real-time when Party Mode is on.

While the event is taking place, share the most memorable moments on the big screen in Slideshow mode. People can comment on and +1 the photos and videos, which appear sorted automatically by the name of the person who took the picture. This real-time organization means you don’t have the hassle of organizing them after the fact.

Invitees who were unable to make the event can benefit and still take part by hanging out on the events page during the event. They will have access to the media that is being posted and, if the Google+ Events On-Air feature is being utilized, by viewing the public broadcast of the event in real time.

Remembering What Took Place (After)

Google+ Events gives value to all participants long after the event has ended. Google+ Events will remind attendees to upload their photos taken while participating, and all invitees have their own folder where they can add photos and videos easily.

Google+ Events – The Missing Feature You’ve Been Waiting For

Monday, July 16th, 2012

Google+ Events

Google I/O, the annual Google event, is usually the place to be if you’re looking for surprising product announcements aimed at making the Internet more usable, scalable, and personalized. Held June 27-29, 2012, this year’s Google I/O highlights were Jelly Bean, Nexus 7, and the surprise addition of an Events feature to the Google Plus social networking platform.

Google+ Events in a Nutshell

The introduction of an events engine is a big deal for the young Google+ social network. Events have long been regarded as the most business friendly feature found in Facebook, with event management being an operational tool many businesses use on a regular basis. The introduction of Google+ Events is a welcome first step towards a more useful Google Plus for business.

An event is the perfect social activity for a social network, providing a means to organize your friends and everyone you know for that important meeting or party. Like many other features found in Google+, event management has been improved beyond the common functionality found on similar services. Google+ Events covers all aspects of an event, Google says, for all the moments that matter — before, during and after.

With Google+ Events, one can:

  • Create an event for any occasion (Birthday, Anniversary, or Product Launch)
  • Send attractive invitations using predefined templates or by using their own graphics
  • Share photos instantly with other participants using Party Mode
  • See everyone’s pictures in one place
  • Stay in sync with Google Calendar integration

Google+ Events is an attempt to improve the way social events are managed online. You can read how the revolutionary idea came to Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Engineering, during his visit to Yosemite. (Link to Mashable: http://mashable.com/2012/06/28/google-plus-events)

What’s So Special About Google+ Events?

Google+ Events is one of several free online event management solutions, so what’s so special about it? Not only can you invite all of your existing Google+ friends and users to your new Google+ Event, you can also invite those who are not currently using Google+. It’s possible to invite attendees to your list as long as you have their email address. That is quite different than many other similar services that are isolated to existing users. Also, by using the Google+ Events Party Mode, it is possible for participants to add images and videos in real time. In fact, real-time collaboration options for event participants are amongst the most useful innovations found in Google+. Finally, Google+ Events easily integrates with Google Calendar, providing a robust and simple solution to list and promote your events throughout the internet and other websites.

Google has hit the ball out of the park with Google+ Events and the advantages of this service are plentiful. To try Google+ Events for your business, all you need is a Google+ account, which you can get that by visiting plus.google.com. Once you have an account head over to create your first event.
